Kano Pillars pipped Plateau United by a goal to nil via a well taken penalty kick by Rabiu Ali to secure the maximum points in a fierce encounter in one of the NPFL Matchday4 fixtures decided at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna.
Skipper Rabiu Ali’s 77th minute goal from the spot ensured Pillars maintained hundred percent winning record at their adopted home ground, Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna.
Plateau United created more chances in the first forty-five minutes, had more of the ball possession putting Pillars on the back heels.
But it was Umar Hassan of Pillars who came close to opening scoring three minutes into the proceedings after beating two Plateau United defenders but his effort went just wide.
Usman Fahad of Pillars also came close after he surged forward through the right flank into the penalty area on 28th minute after receiving a decent long pass from Auwal Mallam but he was flagged offside.
A counter attacking move on 32nd minute by the visitors was wasted as Oche couldn’t connect well with a lofted pass from Jesse Akila.
The visitors came close once again on 40th minute through Charles Henlong who unleashed a long range volley but narrowly missed the target.
Jesse Akila of Plateau United had a one-on-one chance on 42nd minute with Pillars goalkeeper, but the lanky striker couldn’t make the most of the chance as he skewed his effort wide.
Both teams poked and knocked but couldn’t find the breakthrough as they went to the break with no goal to separate them.
The hosts eventually broke the deadlock from the penalty spot after Denis Nya conceded a penalty on 77th minute when he wrestled down the lanky Pillars attacker Abbas Rabiu in the box. The referee pointed to the spot and Rabiu Aliu made not mistakes as he slotted the ball into the net to give Pillars the lead.
Both coaches introduced fresh legs to fortify their teams but the changes could not have any effect on the result as Pillars ran away with a slender victory.
