Rangers planned ambush away to MFM at the Agege Stadium Lagos ended in a one-all draw with Ugochukwu Ugwuoke nodding in the opener for the Enugu team in the 23rd minute before Muyiwa Balogun equalized in the 29th minute following a mix up in the Rangers defence.
It was a match Rangers would have won comfortably from several chances created and Coach Mbwas Mangut agreed that for the several missed chances, Rangers would have run away with the win.
“We know that MFM has very young and mobile midfield players and we planned to tire them out before going for the kill. That was our approach and it worked out fine. We created more chances but could not utilise many of them. Had we converted some more of the chances, the story would have been different but we are satisfied and I give kudos to the boys for coming away with a point in Lagos.”
Rangers left it till well into the second half before introducing Israel Abia, Femi Ajayi, Shedrack Asiegbu and Osas Okoro for an all out attack which posed huge difficulties for MFM but their several launch at goal could not count.
MFM also sought the win with a four man attack but Rangers proved a hard nut. Coach Tony Bolus said he is however unfazed with the draw boasting that Rangers has never defeated him as a coach and there was no way they could have pulled a win against MFM.
“We respect Rangers as. a team but, as a coach, Rangers has never defeated me. When I was in Jigawa, we beat them home and away. Last season with MFM we beat them at home so it is not a big deal that they got a draw here today. Yes, we dropped point at home but we will surely get it back on the road to other teams.”
