Dakkada FC of Uyo on Sunday dropped the maximum points at home to Sunshine Stars of Akure in a MatchDay 6 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) played at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium
Dakkada Coach, Lawrence Kingsley made two changes from the starting XI in their MatchDay 5 game against Lobi Stars FC with
central defender Francis Odinaka drafted in for Ubong Idio, while a last minute change saw Kokoette Udo replace Emmanuel Charles in the starting XI.
On the opposite bench, Gbenga Ogungbote gave starts to former Enyimba and Katsina United Fc Striker, Chinedu Udechukwu and young winger Ayo Adejubu.
Sunshine Stars started the game brightly and as early as in the 3rd minute, Ebuka Akobundu missed a chance to break the deadlock, after his free kick was kept in by Dakkada goalie, Thomas Omokhudu.
Dakkada had their own chance to be in front in the 6th minute after midfielder Solomon Chigozie found his way inside Sunshine Stars 18 yard box, only for his shot to be saved by goalkeeper Dayo Ariyo.
Sunshine Stars would go ahead to score their first of two goals in the 12th minute with striker Sadeeq Yusuf heading in Seun Olulayo’s corner kick.
Coach Kingsley’s reaction to that goal was an instruction to his players to keep possession and it almost saw them work out an equalizer in the 23rd minute.
Sunshine Stars young winger Ayo Adejubu was the orchetrator for the visitors with his footwork and passes, leaving Dakkada defenders a torrid first half trying to defend against him.
Trailing 1 nil, Dakkada Coach Kingsley again changed his playing formation in the second half, deploying Nnamdi Mejuobi to the wings while Kokoette Effiong was made to play deep in the midfield.
They thought they had equalized in the 48th minute, with Mejuobi scoring from a rebound off Anieka Ekpe’s shot on goal, only for the goal to be chalked off by the referee as offside.
Dakkada then introduced Nsikak Moses and Jesam Uket for the Nnamdi Mejuobi and Kokoette Effiong, in search of the equaliser but it was Sunshine Stars that almost doubled their lead in the 62nd minute after inspiring Ayo Adejubu’s pass found Sadeeq Yusuf who missed a clear chance to score.
Few minutes after his miss, Sadeeq Yusuf made amends, scoring his 2nd goal of the game in the 67th minute with an assist from Seun Olulayo.
The goal was Sadeeq Yusuf’s 4th goal of the season.
Dakkada’s response came minutes after when Jesam Uket benefited from a pass from Christian Ekong to reduce the tally.
Try as they did to push for a second goal, Dakkada ended up missing a couple of scoring opportunities from Substitutes Jesam Uket, Adamu Yazid and Nsikak Moses in the 82nd, 85th and 88th minutes. Sunshine Stars held on, defending for their first away win of the season at the end of regulation time.
